 | Title: I feel Orange todayAuth: Patricia GodwinIllus: Kitty MacaulayPub: Annick Press | Focus: Synesthesia A lot of ND folk will have some synesthesia. For me, certain phone numbers are fun to say; seeing evergreen trees blowing in the wind feels scratchy; and the texture of avocado is vicerly VILE. There are BAD textures, sounds, light and touch. In this book: Colours are given to moods, and events during the day. So validating to seeing the world of the senses connect up in unique ways.
Reminder: A reminder to NTs, that ND folk can be experiencing everything more intensly and vividly than they do. Activities: Could take one colour at a time, and ask what are things that FEEL orange to you? Do you agree or disagree? Draw things that feel orange. What colour is sad? |
 | Title: Imogene's AntlersAuth: David SmallIllus: David SmallPub: Scholastic | Focus: Fluctuating Capacity, Accomodations. Sensory, physical and functioning differences. In this book: Some days are harder than others, you wake up, and you can't do your day the way you normally do. Everything is harder. Our regular activites may need to be changed. And what I like best, is some adults find fun ways to embrace the difference. Going outside to rest feed birds, is fun [Note: bread is BAD for birds!!!] Also the diffrences change from day to day.
Many adults are not capable of handling differences. They become hostile, demanding we hide them. Or abandon us - the mom faints continually.
Reminder: Need to be careful - there is a nasty history of BLAMING mothers for children being autistic, not hiding the autistic traits. Activities: Which adults in your life are abandoning you, and your needs? Do they ignore your changing needs on hard days and insist that because you did the activity without 'antlers', they will punish you for not being able to do it WITH 'antlers.' What things are hard sometimes. What activites help you. |
